Once you’ve found an item you want to buy (woo hoo!), your next move will depend on whether or not the seller has Instant Pay turned on or not. If the seller has Instant Pay turned on, there will be a green button in the lower-righthand corner of the screen that say ‘Buy’. If you see this, that means that Instant Pay is turned on and the item is available for immediate purchase.
If the seller has Instant Pay turned off, the button in lower-righthand corner of the screen will be white and say ‘Message’ in green. This means that the seller wants you to message them before purchasing the item, possibly to work out transaction details like your shipping price, delivery details, or they might be open to price negotiations. If that’s the case, just tap the ‘Message’ button and send them a nice message that you’re interested in purchasing the item. After you finalize the transaction details with the seller, they’ll turn Instant Pay on and the button in the lower-righthand corner will become green and say ‘Buy’.
When you’re ready to buy, click the green ‘Buy’ button and the Checkout window will open. (Don’t worry, you’ll still have time to finalize the transaction!) This is where you can see delivery options (whether the buyer is open to meet in person to deliver the item and/or will ship it to you), where you confirm or edit your shipping address, see a price breakdown, and choose your payment method.
All transactions must occur in-app through PayPal to be protected under our Buyer Protection policy. You can checkout in-app using your debit card, credit card (Mastercard, Maestro, Visa, and American Express), or your PayPal account. To checkout using your debit or credit card, scroll to the bottom of the Checkout page and click ‘Debit or Credit card’. This will take you to PayPal’s guest checkout page where you can enter your debit or credit card information and check out securely without actually using a PayPal account.
If you would like to check out using your PayPal account, scroll down to the bottom of the Checkout page and click ‘PayPal account’. Login to your PayPal account and click ‘Pay Now’. If you decide you don’t want to buy the item anymore, you can always click cancel and return back to Depop. Please note: If you have a debit or credit card that’s associated with a PayPal account, you must checkout using that PayPal account to use the card, or else you’ll get an error message.
Once you hit ‘Pay Now,’ we’ll send a confirmation email to the email address associated with your Depop account, and PayPal will send a confirmation email to the email address associated with your PayPal account. Just to be safe, it’s a good idea to shoot your seller a message thanking them for the item and asking for a tracking number, so you’ll know when you should expect to receive it.
